Local QOF
QOF points should be weighted differently from one area to the next to take into account variation in the difficulty of hitting targets, the NHS Alliance has proposed.
Professor Chris Drinkwater, NHS Alliance president and public health lead, told Pulse: "Our recommendation is that for certain populations it will be hard to meet some QOF targets, especially for GPs working in deprived areas.
If there’s a weighting of QOF points that takes on board those aspects, that might offer a better incentive to GPs working in deprived areas. There’s also some potential in weighting indicators to take into account factors like ethnicity."

Informatica has worked closely with a leading Primary Care Trust to support its local QOF programme.
Like QOF, each indicator has a target performance range and fixed number of points allocated which are remunerated using a tariff-based process that closely mirrors payment under the GMS contract. Indicators will be revised/retired and new areas introduced on an annual basis.
This scheme has high ambition - to deliver world class healthcare. It focuses on helping people live healthier and longer lives, and above all aims to dramatically reduce health inequalities.
The local QOF extends the national Quality and Outcomes Framework with locally set, evidence-based targets that directly reflect the needs of the patient population that the scheme serves.
Audit+ supports the general practices with interactive prompt at the point of consultation and centralised performance management metrics to allow the PCT to monitor and improve the scheme.
